The Healing Habits Series

If you knew me before the past year or so…then you don’t know me. I know because I don’t even recognize myself these days.

If you knew me before, then much of what you knew was shortness of breath, sweaty palms, and heart palpitations. Calling out sick. Scared of her own shadow.

It’s been a long, winding road — I’ve tripped, fallen, and gotten back up relentlessly. I think that must be what it takes. That, and finally getting tired of standing in our own way.

There are endless healing methods out there, but what truly turned my life around is changing my daily habits. I think we might all know deep down that’s really the secret, but it’s not easy to do. But what if it is?

I could go on a hundred tangents on this topic…so I will. The Healing Habits Series breaks down small, manageable changes you can make to your daily routine that have major positive impacts on your wellbeing, both mentally and physically.

What surprised me along my own journey is that it doesn’t take much — it’s as small as naming one thing you like about yourself when you brush your teeth each morning. It’s as simple as adding a few mindful stretches to your wind-down routine.

The magic comes from stacking these habits, each one building on the other, combined with the practice of coming back to it even when you miss a day or a week.

That’s also where the challenge comes in. Rewiring your brain takes persistence. But the payoff and the peace is worth every ounce of effort.

@emmamurphysc I used to oversleep, skip breakfast, go straight into the workday, and wonder why I was miserable. Reclaiming my mornings as dedicated time for myself has made me more clear-minded and in control. Our lives are made up almost entirely of the mundane everydays. Let's make them really count.
